Xanadu Island Resort

Xanadu Island Resort

The Cayes, Belize

This family-owned island resort is one of the most eco-friendly options in Belize — it was the country’s first hotel to be awarded a Green Globe certification. Located just a short walk away from the town of San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, it’s made up of five enormous domes that house 20 simple-but-spacious condominium-style suites. The relaxed Caribbean setting is reflected in the wicker furnishings and tropical decor.

During your stay, you can take a dip in the freshwater pool or swim and snorkel around the man-made reef. If you’d like to relax, you’ll find an array of loungers and hammocks nestled in the shade of tall palms of the tropical gardens that surround the property. Guests can also stroll along the long pier to relax in the palapa (an open-sided, thatched seating area) or laze in the Jacuzzi that overlooks the white sands and turquoise sea.

As you're able to cook for yourself here, there's no restaurant on site. However, there is a small bar that serves coffee, smoothies and alcoholic beverages and you’ll find restaurants and cafés in town, which staff will happily help recommend based on your likes.

OUR OPINION:

We like Xanadu for its friendly, attentive service and relaxing, Caribbean atmosphere.

Rooms

A relaxed Caribbean theme can be seen throughout all 20 suites here at Xanadu. Each has a comfortable living area, fully equipped kitchen and a large, shaded deck that overlooks the ocean, pool or gardens. They all include air conditioning, ceiling fans, cable TV, complimentary Wi-Fi, a safe and a hair dryer.

Location

The property sits a short walk from the heart of San Pedro town. You can easily reach the shops, cafés and restaurants on foot, bicycle, golf cart or taxi. Its beach-front location means you’re just steps away from the world's second largest barrier reef.

Food and drink

Although Xanadu doesn’t have a restaurant on site, guests are encouraged to take the short walk into town and explore the island’s options. For breakfast, we recommend Brooklyn Brothers Bagel as well as The Baker — the cinnamon rolls are excellent.

There is a grocery shop just outside the entrance of the resort, where you can shop and make use of the complimentary beach barbecue.

You'll be provided with complimentary filter water throughout your stay and an initial coffee and tea pack when you arrive.

Facilities and activities

There are many places to explore within the grounds of this resort, including a nature walk that has its very own waterfall. There’s a freshwater pool and Jacuzzi, and guests enjoy complimentary use of bicycles, kayaks, and paddleboards. The hotel can also arrange tours throughout the local area, such as scuba diving, fishing and sailing.
